Week 32
Well as you can tell from my heading this week was interesting and a little bitter sweet! We got the news this week that Hermana Bryson that Hermana Bryson needed to go home, she got an honorable discharge for medical reasons! I love hermana Bryson and I am so sad to see her go, but I know that heavenly father has a plan for us, so even though I will miss her dearly, I know that god is watching over her. We then got the news that there was too many missionaries going out and going home and not enough new missionaries coming in. So I was going to stay in Steamboat with a new companion, but they had to emergency transfer me to Vail. My new companions here are hermana Garcia and Hermana Gutierrez. They are amazing and so far i do love Vail. We met yesterday Bishop Webb and Momma Webb and they are soo kind and sweet! I already feel like home here.
As I am leaving Steamboat it is a little bit triste hahah! As everyone knows a lot of things happened in Steamboat! As I look back on that beautiful area though.. I AM SOO GRATEFUL! Steamboat was the refiners fire... I learned so much there it is crazy! I know that everything that happened there was for my good! I am so thankful for the members there and for the opportunity to learn what charity truly is and what the pure love of Christ truly is! I know that I am going to remember the things I learned there and take a little piece of Steamboat with me wherever i go! The MAIN reason that Steamboat has changed me forever, is because that is where I learned of my Savior. I have learned how to trust in him and how to promise him all of myself. I am so grateful that I got to feel his love and know he was there every step of the way continuing to guide me! And he is still doing so! As I got to the Vail apartment and looked on the wall i saw a picture of a temple chair and a little quote that said no empty chairs. I know that god is mindful of me and telling me that this is where I am supposed to be!
Now I will tell you a little about my new companions! So Hermana Garcia is a greenie which is great!!! She has been out 8 weeks now! I feel like that was me yesterday hahah! Time just flies! She is from Texas and is super sweet. Hermana Gutierrez is almost done with her mission, she is the Sister Training leader here, and she goes home in 3 weeks! Which is crazy! She is from Mexico but lived in Utah for 2 years before the mission! I have already learned so much from them! One of my tender mercies this week was talking to Sister Linford! Saying goodbye to members was hard, but she said something that just really touched my heart! She said we have no power in the past and no power in the future. But we have power right now! And we can learn from our past and do things now to determine our future! I love that quote because I know that All of the things that I have experienced in my mission have shaped me into the person I need to be. And I know that more things will come my way to continue to shape me. And I know that RIGHT NOW as I commit myself and serve with all of my heart that I will determine my whole future!
SO THAT IS MY WEEK haahah! A little crazy! I am so looking forward to teaching the people here and to be in Vail. And I am beyond excited for General Conference! i hope everyone has already prayed and thought of questions for it! I know that the inspired men of our church will be guided by god to help us and answer our questions! I love you all! Estoy agradecida por todas las pruebes que tuve! y estoy emocianada para aprender mas de mis companieras y este area! Yo se que JesuCristo es Nuestro salvador y que el es siempre en las misericordias de nuestras vidas!
Have a great week and write a lot of notes about conference! LOS QUIERO!!!!!!!!

Week 31
This week was a turning point in my mission! I have never felt the spirit so strong or felt such a desire to work hard. As everyone knows this week we got to see the apostle Elder Holland. This experience strengthened my testimony more than anything has in my whole life! Elder Holland truly is an apostle of God and he speaks for the savior. I thought for sure that we were going to walk in there and he was going to bring down fire, and chastise us! Because its Elder Holland and he can be known for that hahah! But instead, he made me feel so loved, and feel the spirit sooo strong! We started out the meeting by having the opportunity to shake his hand, and he asked us for our name and where we were from! You could feel the spirit around him like a bubble and as soon as you walked up to him you would be moved to tears! It was unreal! Then we got to hear from President and sister Gifford. I am soo thankful for them and there love and support in this mission! They truly are called from god and I know that what they do in this mission truly is inspired! Then we got the opportunity to hear from Elder Soares of the 70! Something that he said that I really loved is to listen closely tonight because Elder holland is going to be speaking for the Savior. Then Elder Holland got up, and the first thing he said was that while he was shaking our hands he was interviewing us!!! Which is extremely scary, hahah I felt like he could see my soul! But he said that based on those handshakes he knows if he needs to bring the fire hhahaha! But he said that he didn't feel that in this mission.
So instead he continued to tell us how much he loves us and how proud he is of us and our decision to serve. And I remembered what Elder Soares said about how Elder Holland would speak for the savior. The biggest thing that I heard during that meeting and that was personally testified to me through the spirit is that the Savior loves me, and he is proud of me! That is all that I needed to hear! I was literally just dripping buckets of tears from my face hahah! I think Elder Holland thought that I had some disease...... But its okay!!! He told us that he knows it is hard and that he knows that everyone has a perfect idea of what a missionary should be. But he told us we don't have to be perfect but we do have to protect the perfect idea of a missionary! He said that there are many missionaries that have gone before us, and suffered and bled and labored, and we have to protect that LEGACY!!! That really put a lot of things into perspective for me! About how much bigger this is than me, how much bigger this is than Steamboat, and how much bigger this is than the Colorado Denver South mission!
Then he said some things that really made me think of Sam. He said he wanted to talk about when we go home for a while, and normally he doesn't like to do this, because he doesn't want missionaries to get "TRUNKY" (which means ready to pack their suitcase and go home). He said that we are like gods investigators, and that he cares about our success so deeply. So like we don't want our investigators to get baptized and go to church for 2 weeks and quit. He said that God wants us in it FOREVER!!!! We need to commit to do this forever, we need to love it so deeply that it is in every part of us FOREVER!!! He said plan right now what you are going to tell your kids when they ask about your mission! And that he himself has thought about his mission for every day in the last 54 years. SO Samuel!!!!! Remember that you are still a missionary and that god wants you forever! I have no doubt that you already know that and are doing that, thank you for being amazing!
My favorite part of his whole talk was at the end! He said that We can not miss one minute of the greatest privilege on the face of the earth, which is to be called of god, to have him help us and walk by our side! God truly does say Come as you are but also don't plan on staying that way for a second hahah! I know that when we come to him he makes us better. He then said that the gospel is for everyone and that every time that we walk by somebody, we decide that they AREN'T ready for the blessings of god! And that is not our call or judgment! Then he said the best line in all of history hahah!!! He said I know it isn't easy but truly you guys don't even know what rejection is, you don't know what rejection is until you have a crown of thorns on your head, or until you are crucified on a cross and have nails in your hands and side. He said the road to salvation ALWAYS goes through the Garden Of Gethsemane. It is ALWAYS hard, and we are going to have to feel a little of what he felt a lot!!!! And do a little of what he did a lot!!!
Sorry I spoke a lot about Elder Holland, but really I am not sorry IT WAS AMAZING!!! And I promised my parents I would give them all the info so that they felt like they were there!!! I truly have gained a stronger testimony this week on what a mission is, and on why I am here! I know that every single moment in my mission is strengthening me into the person I need to become, so that I can commit FOREVER!!! I know that the apostles and the prophet are called of god! I know with all of my heart that Joseph Smith restored this church, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that my savior lives and that he loves each of us! Ever since I have applied the things we learned from Elder Holland I have seen soo much success! This week we haven't let a person go by and every time that we opened our mouths a miracle came out of it. Some amazing miracles this week have been that we got to have dinner with the Gray family! He is a member and his whole family isn't! He went less active at 17, and I know that they felt gods love when they knelt down as a family to pray! We also got some amazing new potential people to teach, and the ward has been AMAZING! They are the best missionaries I have ever seen, always inviting and loving others! And to top it all off we got to help people this week! WE MUCKED A BARN AND FED CHICKENS!!!! And we cleaned houses! I love feeling like I am making a difference, and when I can show Christs love to others by service! I am going to commit to be a missionary FOREVER!!!!!! I love this mission! Have a great week and remember to be committed FOREVER!!!❤💞💚💙💜

Week 30
Well this week was pretty interesting as you can tell by the title!Well first off this week was interesting with the stomach flu hahah! Me and my companion got really close from being sick together hahah! We also found a new way to do missionary work this week, we gratified come unto Christ on a garage door!!! Hahahah but don't worry it was completely legal, the owners asked us to do it hahah! And also the news you have all been waiting for................ for transfers we got the news that me and Hermana Bryson are staying in Steamboat together! We are super excited to work hard and work together to rely on the lord so that he can make miracles happen this transfer! I know that This area just brings me right back to the riccardi letter! I remember reading it in Eagle and thinking it was amazing but now that I am actually in a harder area, it is so comforting to read what the lord told this elder after his prayer and after his trials. This elder had been in a hard area for like 6 months and then got news that he was staying and he felt like he didn't know his purpose so he prayed to the lord and he prayed and prayed and the lord gave him this answer! : “Elder Humphrey, I am here. I know who you are. I sent you to those neighborhoods, the very ones where you experienced nothing but rejection. I prompted your changes in direction to even more difficult neighborhoods. I know where each of the elect in your area resides. I know their names. I could send you to those addresses only, and save you the time and sacrifice looking for them. BUT ELDER HUMPHREY, WHAT GOOD WOULD THAT SERVE YOU? The mission experience is to do what you are told, when you are told, to go where you are asked, and know that the blessing comes from enduring what I ask of you. This is not about you; it is about opening your mouth at all times in all places. Doing my will without thought to the end result or consequence… this is what serving a mission is.
I HAVE Now for myself. At the beginning of my mission reading this it was inspiring and helped a lot but looking back and reading this just the other day. IT IS LIFE CHANGING!!!!! I know that god is here with me in this area every day! And I have seen the miracles of obedience and how it changes people. I know that by converting myself every day from here on out that I will be blessed! And not only converting myself now but for forever. I think that is the huge thing I have learned and continue to learn from this area, is how to be like Jesus Christ. i have the amazing examples of the Christensens! I have learned so much from them. The other day we were doing service at her house and she found Brother Christensens mission scriptures. And opening up to the front page he had written a quote about promises that says.... We have promised much between us, My savior, Lord and I. His words i trust, his pledge is true, on him I will rely. Ive promised him ill take his name, to keep it as my own. And he will send the comforter So Ill not walk alone. Yes, I will keep his word, his law, my promise I now give, And in return he will share with me, Eternal life to live. Promises link now to the future, they're precious along our way Promises say joy for tomorrow and peace sweet peace for today.Week 29
Hola!!!! This week was another great week in the mission! It always is!!!! To start out my letter I want to tell the greatest news in the world!!! Elder Holland Is coming to our mission to speak with us March 18th! I am super excited! he is my absolute favorite apostle! Also transfer news is coming up this weekend already! i FEEL LIKE TIME IS JUST ABSOLUTELY FLYING! This week was crazy busy, i am sooo glad that I am in this area right now! I absolutely love this ward! i have learned so much from each individual member, and they are so good at loving and taking care of the missionaries! This week was awesome we saw amazing miracles, we had a baby shower for Summer this week, and I got to color Sister Herrings hair on our exchanges and sister Brysons!!! An amazing miracle that happened this week was on Thursday! We were on our way back from District Meeting and my companion was just having a hard day like we all have on our missions! So we parked the car and we just talked it out for awhile, trying to come up with ways that could help! And so before we got back to work sh said she needed two things hahah! The first was a Dr. pepper! (my kind of comp) and the second was to sit outside and to pray! So she told me that she had prayed to heavenly Father that he would just show his love that day and that he would have someone show her that they cared! And then right after we went over to the gas station to get Dr peppers, And as she was paying for them! Someone slipped their card on the counter and offered to pay! They said that they were members from Vernal Utah and that they knew how hard it was to be a missionary at times and that they just wanted to help! We were amazed, we both walked out of that gas station in tears! I know that strengthened my testimony soo much on prayer! i can not tell you how many times on my mission, I have seen tender mercies! i know that was an amazing tender mercy and something that we both needed! I love my companion and I am soo thankful that god is looking out for us! i know we couldn't do this work without him! My favorite part of the week was Sunday! After 3 months in Steamboat, we finally had a solid investigator come to church! I am sooo blessed to be able to see some success! His name is jimmy and he is awesome! It was also Testimony meeting and the testimonies were so amazing that I knew that he could feel the spirit! All of church and what we learned was based around finding Joy in the journey and through trials! My favorite lesson was in Relief Society, They taught about happiness through hard times! Something that I loved that she said is that happiness is a choice! I know that as each day of my mission I choose to be happy and look for the tender mercies that I will be blessed! I know that no matter where I am that God will meet me where i am! I feel his love every single day! And I love this work! I can not tell you how amazing it is to go out every day and know that I am doing the lords work! I am thankful for this area! I have learned sooo much here!!! AND I hope to be able to keep learning everyday! I know that the lord is all around us! There is a scripture in job 23:10 that says "But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold! I love the savior and I love this mission! I am soo excited to keep on learning and keep on changing each week! Los quiero mucho! Thank you for everything I could not ask for a better family! I know that as we do what Sam said an we CONVERT to the gospel and not just CONFORM, that that is when we will have the most happiness!
